Not all the Music penned has a personal bent to it. Let’s start with Help Me Out, off my first album Behind Closed Doors.
The following song was written for Greenpeace International and is called Come Home to Me. Penned for the Arctic 30, Greenpeace volunteers who were arrested for protesting drilling in the Arctic. It can be found on my Dreaming Music album. It was inspired by the letters written by family members to those in prison in Russia.
This song was written in response to the conflict in Syria. It is a demo and is called After The Rain Falls.
Call It Murder was written as a response to Ben Harper’s song by the same name. Except I was addressing current issues in our country. Again, this is a rehearsal with Rodney Buys. We bring the house down with this song. In the end everyone shouts Murder!
My scarecrow body is half way home
Encircled by tyres that are burning into flesh and bone
Now I hear sirens so loud and clear
But they’re just echoes of a past that’s always near
Every politician’s a Judas if you scratch under the surface
A poisoned tongue leads to control
These fuckers want to coin your soul
Take away your sovereignty
I’m gonna call it what it is
Call it…murder
Now we use fire, toy-toy and throw stones
Speak to our ancestors through sacred bones
With our heads held high and our back so strong
We’ll raise our voices and burst into song
A slight of mind and stolen land
A dice and a bottle for the sons of Ham
A poisoned tongue and mind control
A no go zone for your heart and soul
They want to take your sovereignty
I’m gonna call it what it is
Call it….murder
My Daddy said, girl we really need another revolution
We’ve been bartered and sold again
By politicians and holy men
Who want to take our sovereignty
We need to call it what it is
Call it….murder
This was written in response to the Lockdown restrictions. It’s called They Will Never Own Us. And can be found on the LoveChild album
